Being a food lover and eater myself, I wanted to read this "easy to read" book on nutrition, something I am really interested in.
It is very very easy to read! It basically contains 64 so called "rules" on what to eat (food), what kind of food to eat (mostly plants), and how to eat (not too much).
It is very interesting and from the point of view of a non-scientist/non-dietician, a journalist in fact, who did some research. Most research leads to more confusing things that need more research. Never a straight forward answer. However, the writer's research/quest on finding out how to feed his family healthily led a simple answer. He shares it in this book.
I loved it. I finished this tiny book of 140 pages in one hour, in one sitting. couldn't stop! It was easy to read and understand, just like the author and the people who recommend it promised.
The writing is funny, truthful, and right!
Here I will share some of my favorite tips, things I found useful.
so very true. and basically don't eat anything you get from a window ;)
everything in the middle is most likely not fresh and not real food. Most of it is processed, or what the author calls "edible foodlike substances".
For example, GoGurt. It is colorful and in a tube. Is it toothpaste or food?
I love this saying because I've always remembered the Chinese one:
早餐要吃飽 午餐要吃好 晚餐要吃少
breakfast full, lunch good, dinner little ((誤
so I loved that I finally found out the English saying that means the same thing
most people, including my family, do it the other way around... which is not good!! good thing we don't eat a TON of food for dinner... XD
There is also something else that intersted me is that the author talked about the French alot. You know why they are healthy even though they eat so much butter? haha
because the French eat out of a smaller plate and never get seconds. Also they eat with others! This helps you to not eat too much/too little/too badly/too fast.
Eat like the French! manger comme les Français!
Anyways, basically in America we eat the "Western diet" which will lead to the "Western diseases". so stop eating the Western diet and get healthier!
